Mario Tsz-chun To is an accomplished guitarist-composer, historical plucked string expert, and educator with international recognition for his artistry and contributions to classical guitar and contemporary composition. He is a faculty member at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (Pre-College) and the California Conservatory of Music. Throughout his career, Mario has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Meng Su, Sergio Assad, David Tanenbaum, and conductor Gergely Madaras. His compositional expertise has led to high-profile commissions, including The History of Knowledge for Meng Su, premiered by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Guitar Ensemble (2023) and installed as part of an exhibition in Shanghai. He has also been commissioned by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Guitar Ensemble (2023). His works have been featured at the Peninsula Guitar Series (2023) and internationally. In 2023, he served as a consortium judge for the Barlow Prize Competition at Brigham Young University. Mario has performed at prestigious events, including the Lying in State ceremony for former San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein (2023). A sought-after chamber musician, he has played in the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Series (2024), collaborating with Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato (2024). His ensemble work includes performances with the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, NOVA Ensemble, and The Boston Camerata (2025).
